Polygamy is a marriage involving more than two spouses. When a man marries several wives at the same time, the relationship is called polygamy, and there is no bond of marriage between wives; and when a woman marries several husbands at the same time, it is called polygamy, and there is no bond between the husbands. If a marriage consists of multiple spouses, it may be called group marriage.
A molecular genetic study of human genetic diversity globally suggested that sexual polygamy was typical of human reproductive patterns until the transition to settling agricultural communities of around 10,000. to 5,000 years ago in Europe and Asia, and more recently in Africa and America. As noted above, anthropologist Jack Goody’s comparative study of marriage around the world using the Ethnographic Atlas shows that the majority of sub-Saharan African societies practice extensive farming for see a correlation between “bride price” and polygamy. A survey of other multicultural patterns confirmed that the tractor absence was the only predictor of polygamy, despite other factors such as the high male mortality rate during the war ( in non-state societies) and pathogen stress (in state society) have some effects.
