My heart is broken for the Kautz family. A now too frequently shared sadness in the story of mental health trauma and loss of children; my son lost his struggle at 29. I feel the truth of *every* word Mr. Kautz wrote here and the gift of Grace is indeed what is needed. The judgement of others doesn’t begin to touch the hell that, those of us whose loved ones have lost this battle serve ourselves. There, but for the Grace of God, go *each* of us. Thank you for sharing! I watched my mother attempt suicide for 30 years before she completed 15 years ago. I battled depression from 14 on until finally being correctly diagnosed with a mild bipolar disorder after she died. While I was in counseling over her life, death, and the destruction of my life.
Let’s all start treating mental health and it’s disorders like we treat heart disease and kidney failure… with intelligent compassion and shameless support! Our family has learnt so much over these past 7+ years. We are so grateful to have found healing for our son who had extreme debilitating PANS/PANDAS with all the symptoms including depression.
One has to also look at underlying health issues that penetrate the blood brain barrier causing these symptoms. When treated correctly they can heal, but scarring and permanent damage may still be left.
Encouragement, love & support are what is required for the ‘victim’ and families who suffer immense trauma in trying to find help for their loved ones.
Patience, kindness and understanding….. & a better understanding of medical professionals to look further into causes can prevent years of unnecessary heartache too.
